1. Scope of This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how MJR Investigations Inc. (“MJR”) collects, uses, discloses, safeguards, retains, and disposes of personal information in connection with our website, inquiries, communications, payment and billing activities, and related business interactions.
Because MJR provides professional investigative services, personal information may also be collected, used, or disclosed in connection with investigative assignments. Such handling will be carried out in accordance with applicable privacy laws, other applicable laws, and the terms governing the particular assignment.
Where applicable law permits or requires MJR to collect, use, or disclose personal information without consent, MJR may do so in accordance with that law.
2. Personal Information We May Collect
Depending on the nature of your interaction with MJR, we may collect personal information such as:

- technical information associated with use of our website, such as IP address, browser or device information, website activity, and cookie information, to the extent such information is collected by the website; and
- other information reasonably necessary to respond to an inquiry, provide services, or meet legal and regulatory requirements.
MJR limits its collection of personal information to what is reasonably necessary for the identified purpose, except where additional collection is permitted or required by applicable law.
3. How We Use Personal Information
MJR may use personal information to:
- respond to inquiries and service requests;
- assess prospective investigative assignments;
- establish and manage client relationships;
- provide authorized investigative services;
- communicate with clients and other authorized parties;
- manage appointments and consultations;
- prepare investigative documentation and reports;

MJR will not use personal information for an unrelated purpose unless consent is obtained or the use is otherwise authorized or required by law.
4. Consent
Where consent is required, MJR will seek consent appropriate to the nature and sensitivity of the information and the circumstances in which it is collected.
Consent may be express or implied where permitted by applicable law.
An individual may withdraw consent upon reasonable notice, subject to applicable legal, contractual, regulatory, investigative, or other lawful restrictions. Withdrawal of consent may affect MJR’s ability to provide certain services.
Applicable law may permit or require MJR to collect, use, or disclose personal information without consent in certain circumstances.
5. Investigative Information
The nature of professional investigative work may require MJR to obtain personal information from sources other than the individual to whom the information relates.
Where permitted by applicable law, MJR may collect, use, or disclose personal information without the knowledge or consent of an individual where obtaining consent would compromise an investigation or proceeding, or where collection, use, or disclosure without consent is otherwise authorized by applicable law.
MJR conducts investigative activities for lawful purposes and in accordance with applicable legal, licensing, and professional requirements.
6. Disclosure of Personal Information
MJR does not disclose personal information except where:
- the disclosure is consistent with the purpose for which the information was collected and is permitted by consent or applicable law;
- the individual has provided consent;
- the disclosure is reasonably necessary in connection with an authorized investigative assignment and is permitted by applicable law;
- a service provider requires limited access to perform services on MJR’s behalf; or
- the disclosure is otherwise permitted or required by law.
MJR may use service providers for functions such as website hosting, technology services, data storage, payment processing, accounting, or other legitimate business operations. MJR limits the personal information provided to service providers to what is reasonably required for them to perform services on MJR’s behalf.
Where personal information is processed or stored outside British Columbia or Canada, it may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is processed or stored.
MJR does not sell or rent personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
7. Payment and Credit Card Information
MJR may accept payment by credit card, electronic payment, or other approved payment methods.
Depending on the payment method used, MJR or an authorized third-party payment processor may collect billing and payment information necessary to process an authorized transaction.
Where payment is processed through a third-party payment provider, payment-card information may be collected and processed directly by that provider in accordance with its own privacy and security practices. MJR may receive transaction-related information such as the payment amount, date, payment status, and limited payment-method details required for accounting and record-keeping purposes.
If payment-card information is provided directly to MJR, it will be used only for legitimate payment and business purposes and handled in accordance with applicable legal, privacy, and payment-security requirements.
MJR does not use payment information for purposes unrelated to the authorized transaction except where permitted or required by law.
8. Website Cookies and Similar Technologies
The MJR website may use cookies and similar technologies for purposes such as website functionality, security, analytics, user preferences, and integrated third-party services, to the extent those technologies are actually used on the website.
Where required by applicable law, visitors will be provided with appropriate notice and choices regarding non-essential cookies or similar technologies through the website’s cookie-consent or preference tools.
The website may also contain links to or integrations with third-party websites or social-media platforms. Those organizations operate under their own privacy policies and practices, and MJR does not control how third parties handle information collected directly by them.
9. Electronic Communications
Where MJR sends commercial electronic messages, those communications will be handled in accordance with applicable Canadian electronic-marketing requirements, including Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (“CASL”). Where required, MJR will comply with applicable consent, identification, and unsubscribe requirements.
Recipients may withdraw consent to receive applicable marketing communications by using the unsubscribe method provided or by contacting MJR. Unsubscribe requests will be processed in accordance with applicable law.
10. Safeguarding Personal Information
MJR uses reasonable administrative, physical, and technological safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of personal information in our custody or control.
These measures are intended to protect personal information against unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, loss, or disposal.
Although MJR takes reasonable precautions to protect personal information, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Individuals should avoid transmitting highly sensitive information through ordinary website forms or unsecured email unless specifically instructed to do so.
11. Retention and Secure Disposal
MJR retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected and to satisfy applicable legal, regulatory, contractual, investigative, accounting, or legitimate business requirements.
Where MJR uses an individual’s personal information to make a decision that directly affects that individual, MJR will retain the information for at least one year after it is used, as required by applicable law, so the individual has a reasonable opportunity to request access to it.
When personal information is no longer reasonably required for the purpose for which it was collected and retention is no longer necessary for legal or business purposes, MJR will take appropriate steps to securely destroy, delete, de-identify, or otherwise dispose of the information.
12. Access and Correction
Subject to applicable law, an individual may make a written request for access to, or correction of, their own personal information that is under the control of MJR.
Requests must contain sufficient detail to allow MJR, with reasonable effort, to identify the individual and the personal information or correction being requested. MJR will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Access rights are subject to the exceptions and protections provided by applicable law. In particular, MJR may refuse to confirm or deny the existence of personal information collected as part of an investigation and may refuse or limit access to investigative or other protected information where permitted or required by law. Nothing in this Privacy Policy requires MJR to confirm that an individual is or was the subject of an investigation, confirm that an investigative file exists, identify a client, or disclose information that is legally protected from disclosure.
Where applicable law requires access to information that can reasonably be separated from protected information, MJR will provide the portion that may lawfully be disclosed.
Where MJR is satisfied on reasonable grounds that a requested correction should be made, MJR will correct the information as soon as reasonably possible. If a requested correction is not made, MJR will annotate the personal information under its control with the correction requested, where required by applicable law.
